Visited Auckland twice on my trip around the world. Landed in City and spent 1 day there and then came back after a week of touring the North of northern NZ. Quite a small city in comparison to other major cities i have been too and didn't seem a great deal going on apart from the America's Cup village.

Favourite spots: |
The Marina where all the large yachts are being prepared for America's Cup defence in 2003. Had a meal in Large restaurant overlooking marina which was gorgeous and not expensive which I thought it would be.

What's really great: |
Climbing the Tower in Auckland on a very sunny clear day was pretty cool. Though if you don't like hights, avoid the Glass floor if you don't fancy seeing the tops of cars driving below your feet. Pretty scary stuff. The views of harbour are good and of the Bridge.

Accommodations: |
Forget the name but the Hotel we stayed in was a Best Western and it was situated near the top of Queens street on the right hand side as you go up the hill. Small walk into the City (5 mins) but on the whole, a very nice stay and breakfast very nice buffet.

Restaurants: |
Plenty of nice restaurants down by the Americas Cup village. We ate in one in the marina area which was packed so obviously very popular.
