This is where I was born and where I still live... most probably I'm going to move to Neuhausen am Rheinfall on September 1st, so there's nostalgy coming up and I'll try to write down everything I remember...
Winterthur has about 90'000 habitants and is not (or not very well) known by tourists, although it has to offer some really nice places. It has to be said that it has no lake (all towns who have lakes get the tourists- that seems to be a rule here). It has a lot of forests and parks, but is more known as an industrial city (Sulzer, SLM, Rieter...) than a green area.
Favourite spots:
the old town with its various shops and coffee houses
What's really great:
It's great to live here, and I'll miss the 20 years I spent here, I'm sure.
Sights:
the town hall
the old town
Nightlife:
Albani Bar of Music: nightly concerts and not too expensive prices.
Coal Mine Book Bar: something between a museum and a bar, sometimes there are concerts
Fumetto: a crossing between a comics shop and a bar
Hangouts:
Paddy O'Briens Irish Pub: for those who can't along without Irish pubs. They even have RTE there- and that's very rare in Switzerland!
