Maun is ones gateway to the Okavango Swamps. Once flown into the delta, theres not much luxury, no mass of tourists, only pure wildlife and adventure.

Maun, one can say, is the capital of the Okavango Region. The Okavango River rises from tropical Africa and never reaches the ocean! The delta is the waters dispursement into the Kalahari desert and atmosphere. The town Maun is both resting point between the national parks in the north of Botswana and Gaberone (capital) in the south, but also starting point for trips into the delta, most convieniently by air. Once there, enjoy wildlife and nature. Birdlife is abundant.

Break on Chiefs Island walk
|
|
Chief's Island has its own, untouched by man, unspoiled natural environment. Short walks, no paths, offer a real in-touch-with-nature feeling. We overnighted there, camping under a tree. When our guides seemed nervous and repeatidly fead the fire we didnt know what was going on. Later that night we could hear lions growling and circling the camp we got pretty scary. (One month later a european tourist was taken by a lion on the same island)

Gliding through the delta
|
|
A two-day makoro (canoe) trip was an ultimate experience. Specially after doing a lot of hiking, to lie relaxed and be taken through the swamps was special. A swim now-and-again or stops on the islands to explore and break was exiting.

Hallo Rudi
