I didn't spend much time in Thessaloniki but it is the best I could do, since I can't make an article about the country. Most of my time I spent in Athens. It was our stationary from which we took excursions all over this beautiful land. So, here you go...

My last visit to Greece was in October 1995 with my highschool. It was great and wonderful experiance. We got to see most of Greece in just 9 days. They took us to Thessaloniki, Metheora (complex of Orthodox monastaries), Athens and Parthenon of course, Sounion, Mykena, Delphi... Personaly, i don't think there was enough time to see everything, but it's a good way to know what to pay attention on future travels to Greece. Most of us know Greece has a great history, but preferes going there just on a holliday. I say take a dive into that wonderful culture and their enormous history. Try to meet people, but not just the young people having fun... Meet elderlies and talk to them! You'll get to know the soul of the nation....

Favourite spots: |
My favorite spot in whole Greece was the museum in Delphi... The world known Chariot Driver statue is there and it captured my mind and heart forever! My people is especially attached to Greece and Greeks. We have long and beautiful tradition together... First, we are both Orthodox and that plays a big part in our traditions. Therefore, one of my favorite spots was Metheora...

As I have said before, our nations are very connected (eventhough the politics don't always show it). Belgrade and Thessaloniki are brother towns. During the WW I, Greece provided shelter to Serbian soldiers and great help... There is an old Serbian cememtary there where great number of our soldiers were burried. The name of the cemetary is Zeitinlik... It brought tears to my eyes... I felt the suffer of my anccestors, their relief when they reached their brothers...

Sights: |
My advise would be to take an organized tour if you want to see the historical sights. But if you want to meet people and culture, forget about it! It is a beautiful and more than safe country... Pack your bags and travel... Don't just reach the first holliday resort and stop there...

|
Accommodations: |
Finding accomodations in Greece is not a difficult, but could get tricky during the summer at the seaside... You can get a room at one of many houses that people rent, some hotel is always near but it won't be cheap...

Nina, thanks for write this interesting article about Athens. I am planning to go in a tour to that city next month. In Athens we'll stay a few days only to see the most important of the city. There we'll take a ship visiting some of the Greek islands and after that we'll disembark in Venice, Italy, starting our trip in that country.
Thanks again for that beautiful article about the capital of Greece.

Hi Nina,
I was a bit disappointed as I thought I was going to get information about Thessaloniki but instead I read a very general report about Greece in general.
I had also hoped to see some pictures of Thessaloniki. I like the pictures you included but Epidavros is not neat thessaloniki at all.
