I just wanted to let you know how much I am enoying reading about your travels. I can't believe you have the opportunity to write nearly every day, especially in the remote areas.
Wishing you continued good health, safe travels, and am looking forward to the next installment!

hope you are fine. Have a good flight across the big water and enjoy the Brasilian segment of your voyage!!! Wished I could be there. ;-)
Keep well - Petra
I read that so far so good with the first leg of African trip! I have been considering Liberia since the fighting stopped, and I am bracing myself that if I go I will see much devastation... But it is great to read that you did not encounter any problems.
Your description about Freetown airport put a smile on my face. I was going through the same process about a year ago. I think that this way, I might have lost my mobile phone. There were so many hands rummaging through my luggage!
I also could not stand Freetown for too long and escaped to Aberdeen quickly. I also stayed at the guesthouse at the end of the beach. I was in the first room with a lounge and a walled off terrace.
I really look forward to see more travel logs from your epic trip. My, oh my - the flights back and forward across half of the continent sound really tiring and time consuming...
I am very glad to see that things have been changing in West Africa for the better. Only 24h for the visas? Excellent! At least it was a great surprise rather than a nasty surprise - 'I expected the visa to take a day and it took a week' :)
I am really envious! I love Ghana and the entire West Africa. I made great friends in the town of Elmina - the football team Panya FC. I sponsor one of the young players to go to school...
Sierra Leone was also superb. I went there in November last year. People were super friendly and welcoming. The beaches were excellent and it was relatively easy to move around (well, compared to other West African countries). Although I only went there to test the ground and did not stay too long, the parts of the landscape I managed to see was breathtaking. I did not care much for Freetown, though. Very, very busy and dusty and totally blocked with impossible traffic.
I will be checking your travel log regularly. Happy travelling!
