Hi folks, I became an early pensioner in 2015 and now have a 50m² apartment in München-Laim with sunny balcony. This is the first time in my life that I am living alone. Now enjoy my hobbies!

Rudi, thanks for your comments on my report on Le Harve. It was very hard to write as the area is more transient. But when I travel, I do try to find out some history on the place, it just makes it more interesting being there.

Hi Rudi, Thanks a lot: Maumere

Hi there Rudi,
Thanks for your support on my report about Maumere. Especially coming from you :)
The phrases and poetry on the intro: sometimes of the limitation of the characters. So, i just burst out words that can describe my emotions while i'm there.
PS: this time, I start to use more capitals on my writing :) I rarely did on my earlier reports merely because I don't really like capital letters while writing personal stuff, and a report to me is personal :)
So, many thanks Rudy. Happy travel to you, and i love your reports and beautiful pictures as well.
cheers,
-delvi-

skimming
Posted: 2006-03-24 01:54 PM
Don't be afraid that I will skim report on GLOBO. I never will because I love reading reports of others. I am interested in places they visited and I like to see how they used language. I know how long it takes to write a good report, so i would never skim any report on GLOBO.
We must be realistic, people come to travel sites to find information. They don't have time nor patience to read everything. We should not forget that we also write for them. Our bonus is that if they quickly find the information they need, they may join GLOBO.
When you do a google search, you don't read everything, do you? It is the same with people who come to GLOBO for the first time. They are our prospective GLOBIES.

bold letter type
Posted: 2006-03-24 12:44 PM
Generally speaking I want readers to skim because I cannot imagine all readers to be interested in the places I have visited.
If the reader skims my Parassinikadavu report he will read: Theyyam - twice daily at 6.30 am and 5.45 pm. - 20 km north of Kannur in Kerala -Snake Park and Thai Resort.
'brown beans with coconut' are not key words and therefore not in bold.
This way a traveller looking for information about Theyyam or Parassinikadavu will have enough information to decide if (s)he wants to read on.
It is different for GLOBO members who read reports for pleasure and who give ratings. Bold letters are unimportant for them. I try to catch the attention of readers who come to GLOBO to find information and are not necessarily active contributors. It is also meant for people who find GLOBO through one of the search engines.
Aren't you a bit exaggerating when you say that a quarter the Gokarna report is in bold? It consists of 1321 words of which 76 are bold.

thanks for feedback

Rudi,
Thanks for the feedback on my Parassinikadavu report. I think we still differ in the use of bold text. As I explained before it makes skimming easier. (skimming is done when readers look for information, key words make them decide whether the article is useful to them). You have probably never used this technique otherwise you would know that key word in bold make skimming easier.
This is why the following was in bold:
'twice daily at 6.30 am and 5.45 pm' because it shows that at the time of writing this was the case.
'local buses' to show that travellers can get there without their own transport and need not hire a taxi. I strongly disagree when you say that every city of the world can be reached by local buses.
'20 km north of Kannur in Kerala' Parassinikadavu is not on the map, it is probably too small for this. Travellers cannot ask locals if they don't know where to find Parassinikadavu. When we were in Kannur, it took us some time get the right directions to P, which shows that even locals could not direct us.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback.
