British and Germans settled at nearby Concord in the 1700's and discovered gold at the site where Charlotte is built. Keeping up to that, Charlotte is still a "gold-mine", being headquarters to the Bank of America and others makig it the second largest banking center in the world after NYC. Its the economic center of the Carolinas, being near the border with South Carolina.

- having american sport explained to me as european! American Football, Basketball and Nascar racing are part of the american way of life. Only as live spectator can one then appreciate the enthusiasm and follow the sports properly on TV!
