You can lose everything, but nobody will take away what you saw and what you experienced...

Jan 04, 2025 12:00 AM Escape from cold Europe
I welcomed the New Year 2025 on the beach in Gdansk with champagne and a cannonade of fireworks. Unfortunately, there was no sign of snow.
And now - just few days later, I pack my backpack again and set off for warmer and sunnier countries. First, by bus to Vienna, and from there, for very little money, by plane to the United Arab Emirates. After five days in Abu Dhabi, I plan to board a ship that will visit several ports in the Persian Gulf and the capital of Oman. This will be an interesting alternative to the gray and short January days in Poland. The temperatures of the Polish summer will reign in the Persian Gulf region!

Dec 23, 2024 12:00 AM Flying for Christmas...
I was forced to spend a night in Miami, waiting for the flight to Europe. It is good to have a friends! It is charming Alicia who invited me and offered hospitality on Florida. We had a long travel talk yesterday in the evening. Today, after substantial brunch we took a nice walk in the sun along the beach. The she was so nice to deliver me to Miami airport. I am waiting for the flight to Europe, happy to see tomorrow my son and grandsons. I hope that departures ot two flights will be on time...
When I was recently travelling aboard 747 JumboJet? Long time ago! So it was a pleasure to fly aboatd this giant again. The seats were comfortable and they served tasty German beer :) 9 hours flight to Frankfurt..

Dec 22, 2024 12:00 AM La Romana to Miami...
This was very nice cruise, with plenty of good music and wonderful seascapes. In the morning we reached little port of La Romana in Dominican Republic. Hot and humid weather - I was forced to pack all my warm clothes to the backpack and say goodbye to "Costa Fascinosa" and its crew. I passed the immigration control. If you do not stay overnight in Dominican Republic you will not pay the 10 USD entry fee
I was lucky to book the airport transfer to Santo Domingo airport through the tour desk on the ship. It cost me only 20 euro for 100 kms in the private minibus. What a deal!
I am waiting now in Santo Domingo airport for the flight to Miami. It is hard to dream about white Christmas in the tropical heat! Let's hope that the flights will be on time.

Dec 21, 2024 12:00 AM British Virgin Islands
My last day on this lovely an not too big ship - it is only 2200 passengers aboard. When we arrived to Road Town on Tortola Island at 7 am ot was already hot but cloudy. But even in the shade it is lovely place - the bay housing the port for just one ship is surrounded by high green mountais. In the sea directions st Jonh and St Thomas islands are visible in a distance. At 10 am the sun arrived. I planned to climb one of the high slopes fo the view... I recognized that after the former Governor's Residence (closed on weekends - otherwise 5 USD entry fee you can turn to MacNamara road climbing the green hill and after some 20 minutes to reach the fantastic view point of the port and the bay. I took some great pictures there - see my gallery!

Dec 20, 2024 12:00 AM St Kitts Island....
This is one of the nicest Caribbean islands. Green mountains, blue waters, black people are waiting for you...
From the Ferry Terminal bus station I took a microbus to the bottom of Brimstone Hill (2 USD only) To get to the famuus Brimstone fortress (mentioned on UNESCO list) you must climb 200 m up by step, windy road. I was lucky to hitchhike up. On the way you have 15 USD entrance fee, but it is worth. Credit cards are accepted. The fortress is located in the beautiful landscape and has interesting exhibitions. The land and sea views from the walls are great. Back in the capital of the island I still has a time to visit green Independence Square, two nice churches and historic clock tower. Hot, but very interesting day. Aha: in the cruise terminal they provide free internet connection!

Dec 19, 2024 12:00 AM On Guadeloupe once again...
It is green and lush French Island. I am here third time during this year, but it is still nice to walk narrow streets dotted by colonial buildings. In the old port I found the same shell vendor. Marche is full of cinammon trees bark and vanila. And the black- skin people still do not smile. Huge baobab and mango trees impressed me again in the main square near the old port.
For the first time I found the huge Peter & Paul cathedral open. It is interesting, but in the poor shape. It seems that nobody is ready to give the money for restauration of this historic building.
The tourist office workers are present in the old city and the port terminal, but they still do not have any city or island maps - why it is not possible to have them for tourists like in the nearby Martinique?

Dec 18, 2024 12:00 AM Land on the horizon!
Today in the morning finally I saw the land. This is Barbados - the easternmost Caribbean island. Everybody is happy to go ashore and walk to Bridgetown - the capital of this Caribbean state. It is only like 2 kms to the center... The taxi drivers are ready to drop you there for 2 USD, but I prefere to walk in the nice breeze. It is hot (29 deg Celsius) and very humid with occasional showers. Let's go!
I must be honest and to say that the quality of wi-fi connection in the port terminal building is much better. In the center of Bridgetown along the river they already placed many christmas trees creating special atmosphere.
I took the long walk to the garrison clock tower in the outskirts of the city. A row of the old canons is waiting there for your picture and you can visit also George Washington house (he was staying in this plantation house two months) - if you are ready to pay 20 USD entry fee)

Dec 11, 2024 12:00 AM Sunny Tenerife
Ahoy!
We reached today the last port before 6-days jump across the Atlantic Ocean. I have been here many times, so it is time to refresh memories and.. to smuggle the rum into the ship because aboard the prices charged for the drinks are just killing. The weather is sunny and warm (but not hot) so I took the walk around Santa Cruz. It is easy to get a map in the tourist office but they lie saying that they offer free wifi for visitors - the same was one year ago! So I went to the huge public library. Here the situation was the same... Shame, dear hosts on Canary Islands. You have to care more about your international visitors! So, dea friends the next message will be only next week - from Barbados!

Dec 09, 2024 12:00 AM Fascinating Tangier
We should be in Cadiz today but there is a strike so the captain decided to dock in african Tangier. He makes me happy because I like this fascinating port, the atmosphere of old Medina. Palm trees along the city walls, smells and colors of the souk (Arab bazaar). The sky is deep blue and the sun strong. I am wondering the narrow streets enjoying smiling local people. Tangier is not as tourist like Marrakesh or Fes - it is more natural and I like it. Tomorrow we have day at see, heading to Tenerife.

Dec 07, 2024 12:00 AM Shall we fly or not?
6 am, Gdansk airport. I am waiting for boarding to Amsterdam. Yesterday this flight was cancelled due to the terrible wind in Amsterdam. How about today? Opps, they packed us to the plane and... Captain: we are sorry, but cockpit computer does not work. We must resert it. Be patient! 30 nervous minutes. Uff.. we will fly anyway... It is sunny but windy in AMS. I am waiting now for the plane to Barcelona...
Flight to Barcelona was on time. I landed in Barca at 12.15. Remember the city bus 46 - the cheapest way to the city! But it cost already 4,60 euro!
When I disembarked at Plaza Espana the lovely sun pushed me to tale of the jacket! Then it was a long walk to the port - how many times already I was enjoying the palms along this route... i embarked the ship at 14.30. It is my 3rd time on cozy Fascinosa! They announced that instead of sailing to Cadiz (transport is on strike there) we will sail to Tangier in Africa. For me it is a good change! We will say goodbye to Barca at 4 pm. AHOY!
