Thoughts are with all Englanders

Posted: 2005-07-07 07:55 AM
David,
I wanted you to know that our thoughts are with all Englanders and Londoners in particular. The press coverage here has praised the quick response and relative calm that London has shown. Hopefully things will settle down quickly, but until then, you all are in our prayers.

Hola David!

Gracias por tus consejos.
Sí, si regreso a Inglaterra visitaré alguna de las islas que me recomiendas.
Me encanta viajar a las islas, cuanto más pequeñas y desconocidas, mejor.
Hasta luego

Marmots

Posted: 2005-07-05 08:14 AM
David,
In California you only see marmots above 7,000 ft. The 1st time I took my oldest three to that elevation for a pack trip (the oldest being 11 at the time), I did warn them about the whistles. The marmots sounded so human, they spent hours trying to figure out who was whistling at them on a nearly deserted trail.

I think our marmot must pose! We have loads of pics! They are actually a bit of a pest. If you don't leave your pack open for them to explore during the night, those little claws will tear right through them!

Thanks for the encouragement! I enjoyed writing the report.

Your trip sound wonderful!

Posted: 2005-07-04 09:58 AM
David,
I envy you! I definitely intend to return to Peru in the future. We had added a jungle lodge to our Machu Picchu trip but it was a tough choice between that and the Nazca lines. When are you going? We went in July and although it was einter in Peru, the weather was still moderately warm in the Andes. We did have snow at 14,000 feet, but at 12,000 it was 70 degrees!

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for the Advice

Thanks David - I am still learning. I was in Yosemite National Park last weekend, backpacking, and I will try to write something this weekend on that. You can tell me what you think when I am done. Yosemite has so many unexplored portions that visitors miss!

Thanks for all your help! I'll try to put it to good use!

Temple IV

Posted: 2005-06-29 05:24 PM
David,
The climb up those stairs was worth it! Tikal's Temple IV was amazing - only the top roof comb is excavated. The rest of the pyramid is still buried under trees and mud. From the top you see the roof combs of 4 other pyramids peaking over the rainforest. Toucans and parrots sit in the trees. We went back to the top the next morning to watch the sunrise and just sat up there for an hour watching the world awaken.

Maritime Inn - Brixham

Posted: 2005-06-28 07:25 AM
Hi David,

Thank you signing my guestbook and for your nostaligic vote in respect of the interior shot of the Maritime Inn . It is a terrific pub full of character and still run by a lively Scouse Lady with a huge personality. It was a rare find! Brixham is a lively holiday spot but not the rip off that many SW towns are becoming! The Maritime Inn has a lively African Gray Parrot that freely roams the pub. Well worth a visit and suprisingly not even in the Good Pub Guide!

Cheers, Brit

Thank you for comment on my Noord-Holland report. I had just one dubt: the correct location to publish my report: Amsterdam, Volendam, Marken, ... I hope that my choice (Volendam) does not create confusion...

Luca :)

Very nice report on L'Aquila in Abruzzo. I often visit next door near the city of Teramo.

David

Thanks for your compliments; I was chatting with the artist, and he was saying, 'Oh I'll get out of the way so you can take your picture', but I thought it would be nicer with him working, I'm glad someone noticed.

Thanks

Amanda
