My parents arrived in Johannesburg back in 1952 after a 4-day flight from Germany. It became the home and workplace for us four children too. We grew up as aparteid kids back then, but now have more respect for other cultures than most others do!

Wonderfull inter-cultural cosmopolitan. Dangerous not only at night, but those who live there survive by abiding to basic rules of security, attacks on tourist groups are very rare. Otherwise a wonderfull, bustling city and people in the city smile and even sing/whistle happily in the buisy streets. Its strange that those who have such little are happier in life than the stinking rich.
Favourite spots:
Camping out on the front lawn
- Zoo Lake - Wits University - Wemmerpan - Gold Reef City - Sun City (3 hours) - Sandton City - many good camping sites only a short drive from the city.
What's really great:
A Mall near the International Airport
-The many very large Shopping Malls and their Cinemas - Saturday shopping sprees seem endless. The weather is great (even sunny winters). A sport hungary nation; football and rugby are national but facilities and events for virtually all other sports are common.
