Jun 17, 2017 12:00 AM Murcia - Lets go shopping

Murcia - Lets go shopping Well I just wanted to relax to day, but it would have been a bit of a waste of a day. But as we have an incredibly long day yesterday this would be much easier.

So we didn't leave the complex until after 12pm heading into Murcia by way of a factory outlet. It took us around 30 minutes to drive there and then spent a couple of hours wandering around and got some nice pieces. I was kind of happy it wasn't filled with international brands which meant we could enjoy something different.

A further 10 minutes we entered the town. As it was so late in the afternoon, we found some parking quite easily. However it was so hot, I really didn't fancy being out there. Basically we only visited the Cathedral, but it was stunning. We then headed back for dinner.

On the menu was pork ribs (cooked low and slow) and sweet potato fries with salad. We picked this up on our way back from Granada, found a huge Carrefour supermarket where we picked up all our supplies.

To be fair that day turned out really well if not too hot.

Jun 16, 2017 12:00 AM Granada visiting Alhambra

Granada visiting Alhambra I decided to venture out further afield, as I needed a little more than what was available to me. So I headed for Granada even though it was meant to be a 3 hour drive it seemed like the right chose.

With my google maps in the palm of my hand, we headed out of town. The drive didn't seem as long as anticipated, but it was better once we got the phone synced so we had music playing. The route was easy to following but it wasn't a direct route. The area was very dry, so it was kind of cool when we approached Granada it go a lot greener. There were more trees and fields although it was just as hot. Granada was great; it had a really nice charm. We headed for Alhambra along the small streets and parked in some residents parking area. A local guy ushered in but I suspect he shouldn't have been doing that. We could have turned around and parked in the car park but it turned out ok in the end.

The Palace was amazing as well as the grounds. There are a lot of areas which can be explored without a ticket. But I pre-booked as they said the queues would be long. However as school wasn't out it was still quite calm.

Jun 15, 2017 12:00 AM Murcia Spain

Murcia Spain I hadn't even heard of Murcia prior to visiting Spain and I'm not sure I will ever go there again.

This isn't really a tourist area in terms of foreigners but local tourist. The days are quiet but the weekends are really busy.

I stayed in a place called Alhama - condado de Alhama, which is about an hour from the airport and apart from taking a taxi the only way to get around is by renting a car. To be far it seems like everywhere was at least a 30 minutes drive. But the roads are good so it wasn't too bad.
The complex was huge I believe around 3000 condos built for ex-pats. They have a golf course as well as tennis, squash and paddle courts, and each area swimming pools; with plans to create a theme park. I think with all my travelling I found it hard to appreciate the beauty of this area.

Jun 01, 2017 12:00 AM Changing times

Changing times I had all these plans for the year, and now I quite fancy changing things around.
I quite like the idea of going to Berlin and Slovenia. I have wanted to go to Berlin for a very long time but it has gotten really popular lately and feel the need to explore. However Slovenia has never really hit my radar until the last couple of years, but now there is a real desire to experience the serenity of this area.
It looks like a cycling/hiking holiday will be in order and possible for a long weekend. I hope it happens this year, but may be next year.

May 29, 2017 12:00 AM Riga - Last day in the sunshine

Riga - Last day in the sunshine I had an incredibly early start this morning. The airport is only a 20 minute drive from the old town,

May 28, 2017 12:00 AM Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine Yesterday it was so overcast it wasn't great fun exploring. It is always nice when the sun comes out and being this far north, I really was able to benefit for the long day. Sunrise was around 5am and sunset 10pm. In between there was so much fun to be had. This weekend was popular for stag dos, my flight over must have had at least six groups, so I wasn't surprised when I arrived at my hotel they were handing out leaflets around social behaviour.

May 27, 2017 12:00 AM Riga - A step back in time in the present

Riga - A step back in time in the present Another bank holiday another country. This time its heading to Riga. On first impressions it reminds me of Tallinn, Estonia, but the old town of Riga has an amazing modern feel. So many bars and restaurants.

Known as the capital of the Baltic, Riga is tiny, with an amazing amount of churches to visit, but enough stuff to keep me busy all day.

A MSC cruise ship was in town, so there were a lot of tour groups around town, but once they left is was much nicer walking around.

May 26, 2017 12:00 AM Riga - Something for the weekend

Riga - Something for the weekend On a recommendation from a friend, I headed to Riga, kind of excited.

I was told that the nightlife was really cool and wanted to see for myself.

My flight arrived in around 9.15 and ordinarily I would have thought it was too late. But being so far north, it was still light outside and I was able to travel down and find a bar before it got dark.

After a glass of wine I started to relax and had a fun night.

Apr 27, 2017 12:00 AM Caribbean Sunshine

Caribbean Sunshine I seem to be really enjoying visiting the Caribbean at present. In the last six months I've traveled to 7 islands as well as Cozumel, Mexico and Key West, Florida.
Each of the island are really so different. I mean they have the essentials which are the same - sun, sea sand. But each have their unique features and I suppose doing each of the islands once, makes enjoying so much more pleasurable.

Apr 26, 2017 12:00 AM Gozo and Comino

Gozo and Comino Taking a cruise out of the city is a great way to spend the day. Boats depart around 10am daily its all about choosing which company to go with; I chose Luzzu Cruises and it was alright. They took us to Gozo and Comino and provided free drinks on board.

Leaving Valletta the sea was very choppy and I have to say I would have preferred to have been on dry land, but all in all the day was great. Lovely whether for April. I can only imagine at the height of the summer how hot it would have been.
