The day started really early as I had to met the school on the docks to take the 6.30 ferry to Trinidad. The journey only takes about 2 1/2 hours and as we arrive into Port of Spain I see the huge new building that is the Hyatt and will be hope to the Obamas when they visit the island for the Summit of the Americas. Everything looks so new and fresh it really is amazing.
I'm not so lucky as I was heading to Penal, as small town about 45 minutes from San Fernando. Tomorrow will be the Special Sports Day and all the children are really geared up. Once we arrive into Penal we are the guests of the Lady Hochoy another specail school.
Mar 05, 2009 12:00 AMBack to school again...
Children are so loving, when I returned I go the biggest greeting possible. All the kids were calling my name, the hugged me and everyone (well within reason) wanted to hold my hand - I felt so special.
I suppose the benefit of teaching a subject that everyone enjoys means that I am flavour of the month and that is really nice.
I am really going to miss these children when I return to London. I've only got 4 teaching weeks left - what a shame!
Mar 04, 2009 12:00 AMEnd of my holiday
Well, I have to put the dreams behind me now, and reenter the real world.
Tomorrow I have to go back to work. I started sorting out things I brought back that I will give as gifts. I'm really chuffed but I got some rings that turns colour when exposed to natural light and I want to give these to my kids. Bearing in mind that most of them are little girls I know the will love them.
Being back in Tobago, Carnival now seems like a distant memory, if it wasn't for me turning on the television, I would have never guested it had happened. A talk of it has ceased by my return - it is such a shame that I couldn't have attended and captured it on film. But I'm sure that my time will come again in due course.
Mar 03, 2009 12:00 AMHonolulu time...
I’m usually quite good with jet lag as I find that if I adjust myself quickly to the time zone that I’m in, I don’t tend to feel the effects. However at 6:45 in the morning and I haven’t slept a wink, I can say that I’m now suffering with jet lag. Luckily I have two days before I have to return back to work. But this 6-hour time difference is playing havoc with me.
Mar 02, 2009 12:00 AMWhen will I sleep, I need some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's
When I made my travel booking there was a flight that went through San Franciso that I wanted to get, but it was no longer available on line, so I when through LAX. When checking in it was kindo of great that it wasn't avaialable as the flight leaving Honolulu was delayed over 4 hours - I will have definitely missed all my connecting flights if I was delayed so it was great that I couldn't get on that flight.
I left Honolulu at 2pm yesterday and arrived back into Tobago after 8pm this evening. I was bumped of my local flight by the airline to make room for the US under 19 football team - I wasn't best pleased as they were only coming from Miami (a 3:30 minute flight) and I was coming up to 24 hours - I hope they lose - I shouldn't really say that as it wasn't their fault. But I got home and felt too tired to sleep and my body was telling me it was only 4pm in the afternoon. The price I pay.....
Mar 01, 2009 12:00 AMUp, up and away
I could have headed to the fea market (in the national stadium) as it was really cool last week. But I should to explore the shops down town and get a feeling of Honolulu and then headed back to Waikiki to see the surfers. My flight was fairly early so I didn't chase going too far.
I've kind of built up a list of the things I would do is I ever came back to Hawaii. But some how I didn't think I will be back.
I now have to finish my six-hour time differnces, twenty-four hour, four areoplane, journey back to Caribbean.
Feb 28, 2009 12:00 AMHawaii 50......
It's luau time.
Well the day has finally arrived to disembark. When I got down town, after being in a room with no windows for eight days I decided to upgrade my hotel room for a sea view that overlooked Waikiki Beach (this always sounds better than it is). I should have been staying in the Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton or Sheraton as they had unrestricted views of the ocean. But as it happened it really didn't matter in the end. I sat on the balcony and sipped my champagne in celebration. I had done it, I just completed my first cruise and it was brilliant; even with the ups and downs.
I headed to Diamond Head Crater to get some views of Honolulu; it only cost $1 to do the hike that takes just over an hour.
As I went back down to Waikiki Beach I could see my home for the last seven night setting sail with all new people about to have the same experience.
Feb 27, 2009 12:00 AMAll good things must come to an end
This island (Kauai) has to be my favourite and to top it off I went whale watching and saw a whale breach. I saw dolphins, monk seals, turtles. I watch the sunset as I cruised along the Na Pail coast and at that moment I could not ask for anything else. It was a magical time! But as quickly as it started it would end at 7am tomorrow morning I would be kicked off this ship.
Feb 26, 2009 12:00 AMAll has been redeemed
This holiday is so different from when I normally travel. I am enjoying it but I've taken some knocks.
In my attempts to make a last bid for finding something wonderful to capture me, I headed for Waimea Canyon, what they describe as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific and finally I can say all is forgiven. It really lived up to how they billed it and had a great time until I ended up at a macadamia nut factory when I thought I was going to die. But really what should a person who has a sever nut allergy be doing at a nut factory.
Feb 25, 2009 12:00 AMBobbing along the beautiful briny sea...
Ok so now I am determined to have a good day. I've decided on going sea kayaking, a bit of snorkelling and then a ride in one of those Atlantis submarines - but not necessary in that order.
I paid for my submarine ride only to find out I could have saved 50 dollars if I'd booked it through a tour company - grrrrrrhhhhhh. And the sales woman gave me this wonderful sales talk of how wonderful the coral fields would look; the wonderful colours, the magnificent fish etc. Only to be told when I got on board that because of how deep the water is the coral is monotone. I felt cheated, after that I couldn't even be bother to go snorkelling I just headed for the buffet.
